Sky Venture/Surf's Up
Nashua, NH

SkyVenture NH is an indoor skydiving wind tunnel located just off the D.W. Highway in Nashua that has been in operation since 2004. In 2011, Northpoint teamed up with owners Rob and Laurie Greer, and with architect Mike Cheever, to begin the planning for a major addition to the popular destination facility. The new addition houses an indoor wave pool known as Surf’s Up. Nearly two years later, after extensive design, permitting and infrastructure improvements, Surf’s Up was completed and opened in late 2013.

Design challenges on this site included an existing sewer interceptor that needed to be relocated in order to accommodate the new building addition. Northpoint served as the lead consultant on an engineering team that worked with the City of Nashua to evaluate options for relocating the interceptor, and then ultimately designing and permitting the proposed relocation.

Northpoint worked directly with the owner and architect throughout all design and permitting phases of the project. Northpoint provided all components of the civil/site engineering design and administered the final permitting process through the City of Nashua Planning Board.

The Avaloch Farm Music Institute (AFMI) was founded in 2011 to join the twin efforts of enhancing classical music culture in central New Hampshire, and fostering the development of professional and advanced amateur classical chamber musicians through a unique training opportunity.  Sited on 23 rural acres in Boscawen, AFMI hosts an array of musical ‘fellows’ during the Spring, Summer and Fall seasons.

Northpoint worked as part of the design-build team to develop a workable masterplan for the small campus development on an old farm property.  We provided the civil engineering design component for the initial construction phase which included faculty and student housing, a kitchen and dining area, and multiple practice studios, as well as related site infrastructure improvements. We were thrilled to be a part of this unique design project which truly saw a vision come true when the facility opened in Summer 2013.

Orchard Christian Fellowship
Londonderry, NH

Northpoint worked directly with members of the congregation and the design-build contractor to develop a masterplan for a new church facility on the site of a scenic apple orchard in Londonderry. We then provided the civil engineering design component for the initial construction phase which included a new 300-seat sanctuary along with full site improvements. Design and permitting for this project was challenging due to the site’s difficult terrain, the aesthetic component of incorporating a scenic orchard into a new site development, and the limited fundraising budget of the congregation. In the end, it was a true team effort that led to a brand new home for this growing congregation.

Pittsfield Self Storage
Pittsfield, NH

This project involved the subdivision of a 14-acre parcel of land into two commercial lots and the construction of a new self-storage facility on one of the lots.  Northpoint performed the site design for the self-storage facility and secured approvals from the Pittsfield Planning Board for both a Subdivision application and a Site Plan application.

The proposed site improvements included 40,450 square-feet of self storage units contained within seven total buildings and related paved parking areas and drive aisles. The site design for the project included: grading and drainage design, landscape design, utility design, erosion control design, septic systems design and a Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP).

There were extensive wetlands on the subject property that made the design of the storm water management system challenging.  The drainage design included curbed drives with catch basins and a closed drainage system.  An above-ground detention basin was designed to handle storm water runoff from the site improvements.
